RIC Nurses Protest After Nurse Allegedly Assaulted by Patient’s Relatives

Nursing staff at Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology (RIC) staged a protest after relatives of a female patient allegedly assaulted a staff nurse and tore her clothes.

Following the incident, nursing staff stopped work and demanded legal action against those responsible. Hospital administration formed an inquiry committee, while Waris Khan Police registered a case against the patient’s daughters and relatives following a complaint by the nurse.

According to the complaint, Nurse Sitara Saleem was working in the emergency department when an argument reportedly began with relatives of a patient. She alleged that several women and two men assaulted her and tore her clothes after taking her toward the male ward.

The nurse also alleged that she was threatened during the incident. Police said a case had been registered and that raids were being conducted to arrest the suspects.

The protest left the hospital’s emergency department and other wards without nursing staff, causing difficulties for patients. Hospital administration assured the nurses of full cooperation and appealed to them to end the protest, but the nursing staff reportedly refused.
