Mashokhel Residents Demand Action Over Poor and Unreliable Internet Service
Peshawar: Residents of Mashokhel, an area of Peshawar’s Pashtakhara tehsil, have expressed serious concerns over poor and unreliable internet services, saying the problem is affecting students, businesses, online workers and other users.
Residents claim that despite paying the full cost of expensive internet packages offered by various mobile network operators, they receive slow and inconsistent service. The situation reportedly becomes worse during power outages, when some mobile towers remain inactive for several hours.
According to local residents, some towers operate for only seven to eight hours within a 24-hour period, leaving users without reliable connectivity for much of the day.
Questions Over Generator Fuel
Residents have also raised questions about the use of generator fuel supplied to keep mobile towers operational during power outages.
Some locals have alleged that the fuel may be improperly used or sold. These are allegations and require verification through an independent investigation.
Residents have called for the relevant authorities to examine fuel supply and usage records, as well as the actual operating hours of the towers, to determine whether any irregularities have occurred.
Who Is Responsible?
Residents are demanding answers from mobile network operators and tower management regarding the monitoring and maintenance of services in Mashokhel.
They want authorities to clarify who is responsible for ensuring that towers remain operational, how backup fuel is supplied and monitored during power outages, and why prolonged tower outages are allegedly not being addressed.
They have also questioned why customers continue to pay full package charges despite what they describe as inadequate service.
Residents have urged the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to review network performance, service quality and tower operating records in the area. They have called for action under the law if any violations or irregularities are confirmed.
Residents Demand Transparent Inquiry
The people of Mashokhel are calling for an immediate, transparent and impartial inquiry involving mobile network companies, tower operators and the PTA.
They want authorities to review tower operating hours, backup arrangements during power outages, and fuel supply and consumption records. Any proven irregularities, they say, should result in appropriate action against those responsible.
For Mashokhel residents, the central question is simple: if customers are paying the full price for expensive internet packages, why are they not receiving continuous and reliable service?
With internet access increasingly essential for education, employment, business and everyday life, residents say the issue requires accountability and practical action from both service providers and regulators.
